Ruben Amorim believes Manchester United’s summer arrivals will help us find a way past teams who like to sit deep.

The Reds may not have got the all-important goal in the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, but our head coach was impressed with the way we created chances against the Gunners, who did not overly test our backline following Riccardo Calafiori’s game-settling header.

He namechecked Matheus Cunha as a key factor in our amended attacking approach and suggested that Benjamin Sesko provided a different option from the bench.

Amorim was also keen to note another improvement from the meeting with Mikel Arteta’s men, as he touched upon the team’s reliability in possession and how he wants to see this repeated going forward.

“We are better, but also because I think we have different characteristics and we can change that during the game,” Amorim said.

PRESS CONFERENCE | Ruben has provided the latest team news ahead of matchday two: Fulham away on Sunday…

“We have more options, so you see that we play in a little bit of a different style with Cunha and then at the end with Sesko, because he is a different player and we can use that.

“I think we are improving in that department also: we are creating more chances, so we are ready for any type of game.

“I think the biggest improvement is that we didn’t lose the ball so many times in build-up, that was really good as well as for our team, so we will try to be consistent – trying to maintain the level and trying to improve a little bit.”

Fulham are up next on Sunday, with Marco Silva’s battle-hardened side likely to prove tough opponents at Craven Cottage.

The Londoners scored late at Brighton to force a draw in their league opener and are looking to build on last season’s 11th-placed finish.

United have won on each of our eight previous top-flight visits to SW6, a run dating back to the 2011/12 season, but the boss isn’t using those recent happy memories to underestimate the Cottagers.

“It’s always hard to play against Fulham, they have a clear identity,” Ruben added.

“Marco Silva is really experienced and really smart, he can change several things, cover several spaces and you can see game-by-game, he tries to do that.

“They are really comfortable because they have the experience, they understand the league is long so they will feel confident and relaxed for the game.

“So it’s going to be a tough match. But if you look at the schedule, every game is really hard to play.”
