Manchester United have had a storied past with many accolades over the years. However, recent history hasn’t necessarily painted a good picture of the Red Devils, with the club failing to win a league title in more than a decade now.
One of the few shining lights of the past decade at Old Trafford was David de Gea. The Spanish shot-stopper was an excellent servant for the English club and he has single-handedly saved the club and bailed them out on many occasions.

Man Utd decided to part ways with David de Gea a couple of seasons ago who left as a free agent. He spent an entire year without a club before signing for Fiorentina last summer and going on to have an excellent impact for the Serie A club.
Now, as perTthe Sun, Manchester United have made shock calls to sign their former superstar and bring him back to Old Trafford this summer. De Gea, only recently, extended his deal at Fiorentina and earns around £92,000 a week.
The Spaniard has a storied career in a Man Utd jersey. He has won the Player of the Year award 4 times during his stint at Old Trafford.
However, at 34 and soon-to-be turning 35, De Gea is no spring chicken and not a solution for the future.
Despite his solid season for Fiorentina last year, De Gea is getting on in age, and one of the main reasons Man Utd decided to let him go was his deficiencies on the ball. However, Amorim’s system needs a goalkeeper who is comfortable with the ball at his feet.
Man Utd currently have Andre Onana, who has had a torrid career at Old Trafford. He made a big money move from Inter Milan but he has made a lot of major mistakes that have directly cost the Red Devils in big games in the past couple of seasons.
While the sentiment of wanting to sign a new goalkeeper is understandable, David de Gea is not the solution.
It is time to stop reveling in the past and look into the future and let’s hope that’s exactly what Man Utd do this summer.
