Former Carrington graduates mince no words as they slam United wonderkid for his recent antics

Former Manchester United academy graduates, Lee Lawrence and Phil Marsh, have given their take on Alejandro Garnacho’s potential move to Chelsea.

Closing in on Chelsea move

Garnacho’s future at Old Trafford has seemed settled since he fell out with head coach Ruben Amorim after the Europa League final.

Consequently, the Portuguese manager reportedly told Garnacho he “had better pray” he finds a new club before the end of the window.

The Argentine international has turned down numerous offers this summer, focusing on a a transfer to Chelsea.

Problematically, United and Chelsea seem quite far apart on their valuation with just over two weeks of the window left to seal a deal.

What’s more, the Red Devils are even more keen to make a sale to raise funds as they pursue a potentially club record deal for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba.

Marsh and Lawrence’s take

Speaking on this week’s Talking Devils podcast, both players were heavily critical of the 21-year-old.

Lawrence claimed, “I think Amorim has the right approach bringing back the discipline that Sir Alex had when we were there.”

He added, “there wasn’t any social media when we were there, so we didn’t get involved in that world, but if you’re a player like Garnacho or Rashford and you come out of favour… in our days you’d keep your head down and have a bit of pride. For me it’s just an absolute madness the way it’s gone.”

The former United man also criticised the growth of player power in general and advised young players just to take care of themselves.

Marsh also agreed with this sentiment and asserted, “you see players who feel they’re entitled to be in the position they’re in and they feel they don’t have to work as hard.”

He claimed that money was the root of this problem and that it “has done that to a lot of players. When we were there you felt you were in a privileged position, now it looks as though players have lost that hunger and desire. At Manchester United there’s no better place to come through the ranks and learn your trade. It’s shocking when you look at what Garnacho’s behaving like.”

Alex is a huge Manchester United fan, inspired by greats of his homeland such as George Best, Harry Gregg and Norman Whiteside. Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
