European giant launches £20m offer to sign Jadon Sancho, INEOS will be rejoicing – Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United’s hopes of finally agreeing an exit for Jadon Sancho from Old Trafford have received a major boost this afternoon after the latest development from Italy, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer expert reveals AS Roma have tabled a loan offer with an obligation to buy worth £20 million as a “total package” for the 25-year-old winger.

Wage Demands

United believed they had seen the last of Sancho when a loan was agreed with Premier League rival Chelsea last summer.

The deal included an obligation to buy clause worth between £20-25 million, depending on the Blues’ final league position in the table.

Chelsea’s return to the Champions League with a fourth-place finish triggered the clause and the price was set at £25m. However, Stamford Bridge executives were unable to strike an agreement on personal terms with Sancho as he refused to give up his wage packet at Old Trafford.

In response, Chelsea chose to activate a £5m penalty clause included in the loan deal which enabled them to back out of the obligation to buy. This led to Sancho heading back to Old Trafford earlier in the summer, despite the club and the player having no wish for his return.

Sancho was immediately designated as part of Ruben Amorim’s ‘bomb squad’ – a group of five players, including Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Tyrell Malacia, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho, who were made to train separately from the first-team as they had no future under the Portuguese coach.

The Struggle to Sell

As a result, United have been actively exploring alternative options to shift Sancho with Serie A emerging as the early frontrunner, despite interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey as well.

Italian heavyweights Juventus and Napoli made enquiries to sign the former Borussia Dortmund man while the Bundesliga club were also reported to be considering another return for their prized pupil.

But none of these clubs progressed beyond initial interest as they preferred a loan deal with United instead prioritising a permanent exit for a player with only twelve months left on his contract.

This is why Roma’s offer – a loan deal with an obligation to buy, triggered by “easy conditions” – will be celebrated like a last-minute winner at Anfield by INEOS, who will undoubtedly have been losing hope of shifting Sancho and his £250,000-a-week salary this summer.

Romano reveals Sancho has “opened doors” to a switch to the Italian capital, indicating there is mutual interest in the move, while ruling out Turkey as a destination.
