Blow for Man United as £35million target agrees to sign for Liverpool – Report

Marc Geuhi Palace

Manchester United have managed to improve their offense this summer but the inconsistent backline still needs to be fixed.

If reports in the media are anything to go by then the Red Devils have suffered a huge blow in their pursuit to sign a proven Premier League defender.

News – Man Utd agree terms of the deal to secure £38.8million player exit – What’s left?

Man United recently made an official approach to sign Marc Guehi (FT), from Crystal Palace, however, the England international has agreed to sign for Liverpool.

According to renowned Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, the Three Lions center back has agreed personal terms to join the Anfield side.

He adds that negotiations between the clubs are underway and the deal could be done for a fee of £35million.

As per today’s edition of The Telegraph, Newcastle United are also interested in the Eagles star, but Liverpool are favorites and are closing in to get the deal over the line.

Central Defense

Last year, Manchester United broke the bank to sign Leny Yoro and Matthis de Ligt to improve the central defense at Old Trafford.

Unfortunately, the young French starlet proved to be injury prone and the Dutch international failed to consistently perform in his first season in England.

Amorim also has Lisandro Martinez and veteran Englishman, Harry Maguire, at his disposal, but even they were average last term.

In such a scenario, a top player like Marc Guehi, who was key member of the England squad that reached the finals of European Championships last year, would have helped Man United, but it seems he is headed to Liverpool.

The Merseysiders sold inexperienced Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen early on in the summer transfer window and getting Guehi, who is in his peak years, would be a massive coup.

The 25-year-old captained Palace for 90 minutes in the Community Shield contest last weekend. The Eagles went on to beat the reigning PL champions on penalties.

In your opinion, who should Man United sign to strengthen the backline this summer?
