United Women hit by further shake-up with another vital staff member set to leave – The Athletic

A top Manchester United Women executive is reportedly poised to part ways with the club for a switch to the National Women’s Soccer League.

United looking to build on last season’s success

United enjoyed a superb 2024/25 season in the Women’s Super League, despite a heartbreaking FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea.

Marc Skinner’s side secured a third-place finish, helping them to seal a spot in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, although they must first get through the qualification stages.

There was plenty to be positive about, especially the team’s performances on the pitch. United have since added just one player to the team, although more arrivals are expected.

Last month, United announced the signing of Sweden international Julia Zigiotti Olme, who completed a move from Bayern Munich.

The midfielder put pen to paper on a two-year contract, with the option to extend her stay by an additional 12 months.

However, United’s push to build momentum for the 2025/26 season has suffered a blow, as another key figure from the backroom staff is now set to depart.

United chief set for exit

According to The Athletic, United Women head of player recruitment Harvey Bussell is on the verge of joining National Women’s Soccer League side Utah Royals.

Bussell arrived at United in October 2022 from Millwall, where he served as head of recruitment as a talent scout. He was appointed United Women head of player recruitment in June 2023.

The Athletic further state about Bussell, “He is set to leave his role at United at the end of this summer transfer window and take up the same position with bottom-of-the-table Utah Royals.”

“Bussell will become the fourth backroom staff departure for United this summer.”

“Assistant Charlotte Healy has taken over as head coach of Bristol City, while goalkeeping coach Ian Willcock departed to take up the corresponding position with the Canada Women’s national team, ending nearly seven years with the club.”

Lawrence Shamieh, part of United’s coaching staff, is also preparing to make the move to Tottenham Hotspur.
