“The prospects, the talent, isn’t a question”: Rio Ferdinand gushes over “serious” United star with sky-high ceiling

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has waxed lyrical about defender Leny Yoro, emphasising there are no limits to what he could achieve under the right conditions.

Yoro going strong at United

Yoro joined United last summer from Lille in a deal worth up to £52m. United warded off stiff competition from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid to land Yoro.

Despite United enduring a difficult 2024/25 campaign in which they finished in 15th place, Yoro stood out, impressing with his solid and exceptional performances.

In addition to his no-nonsense defending, the Frenchman also caught the eye with his calm and composure on the ball.

He wasted no time in becoming a fan favourite and even Ruben Amorim has repeatedly spoken glowingly of his ability and potential.

Yoro appears to have picked up right where he left off, with his pre-season performances so far indicating he has no intention of easing up. He was especially outstanding last weekend as United beat West Ham 2-1 at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Ferdinand praises Yoro

Ferdinand played an important role in United’s successful swoop for Yoro and now, the six-time Premier League winner has outlined what could be next in the teenager’s development.

Ferdinand told club media, “I think he’ll grow. Leny Yoro, I think, is a fantastic talent. The prospects, the talent, isn’t a question.”

“It’s about fulfilling that talent, that potential, and I think he’s a serious person, works hard.”

The former England international continued, “I still think you need the stability around him to help him as a young player.”

“His desire is to be better every year and keep working, and long may that continue. If he continues like that, who knows what his ceiling is going to be?”

Ferdinand’s former teammate Wes Brown also waxed lyrical about Yoro in an exclusive interview with The Peoples Person.

Yoro and United return to pre-season action in the early hours of Thursday morning when they face Bournemouth in Chicago.
