If there is one club that must be really hating Manchester United this summer, it has to be Brentford. The London club just saw the Red Devils steal their talisman – Bryan Mbeumo in a season where they have already lost Thomas Frank.
Of course, Man Utd’s move for the Cameroonian international did leave Brentford £71m richer but it would still sting to lose their best player. Now, it looks like the M16 club want to cause an even bigger headache for the Bees.
News – Fee raised – Man Utd now ready to agree on £35m-£40m to secure player exit
As per The Sun, Manchester United are moving in to steal talented Metz striker Idrissa Gueye ahead of Brentford. The Bees also want to sign him this summer but face competition from the Red Devils, Burnley and Borussia Dortmund.
The fierce competition for the youngster’s signature, including a club like Manchester United, has prompted Brentford to look at matching the French club’s asking price of £15million to part ways with the teenager.
One thing that the Bees can offer which Man Utd might not be able to is an early chance in the first-team in the Premier League. With Yoane Wissa also expected to leave this summer, a new striker could be on the cards for the London club.
A tough one for Man Utd
The teenager is very talented, as evidenced by the fact that he has already made his debut for Senegal at the highest level.
That said, at Manchester United, he might get lost in the youth teams with no clear progression to the first team.
It would not be a huge surprise to see the Red Devils miss out on Gueye with Burnley and Brentford capable of offering him more first-team football in the short-term and Borussia Dortmund having a great record of developing young players.
It remains to be seen if Man Utd push ahead to secure the signature of Idrissa Gueye.
Even if they do, it could be a while before we see him in the first-team picture and let’s wait and see how things play out.
