One of the busiest aspects of Manchester United’s summer is usually sorting out loan deals for a plethora of young talent at Carrington.
The Red Devils will certainly hope that some youngsters will break through to the first team like Chido Obi and Harry Amass did last year.
Nonetheless, some players follow a different path and need to be loaned to lower division clubs to build up vital first team experience.
Successful loan last year
Not all loans work out successfully but Sonny Aljofree massively impressed on loan last year at Accrington Stanley in League Two.
The 20 year old played 27 matches in total and scored three goals for the ‘Owd Reds.
The young defender found plenty of playing time in the back three of Accrington’s defence and there is no question that the experience will have opened his eyes to the rigours of senior football.
A new chapter in Nottingham
There were links earlier in the week of Aljofree moving to Notts County as the clubs were engaged in talks over a loan deal.
The transfer was officially announced by the League Two club on their official website today as they stated, “Manchester United central defender Sonny Aljofree has joined us on a season-long loan.”

The Magpies’ director of football, Roberto Gagliardi, was delighted with the move and lavished praise on the young defender.
Commenting on the deal he asserted, “Sonny has all the traits of a modern-day defender – balancing an aggressive playing style with the ability to distribute the ball from the back.”
He also hinted that the club were impressed with Aljofree’s flexibility as he noted that he has looked comfortable in a back four in United’s reserves but also in a back five at Accrington.
Potential major role
Gagliardi also praised the player’s leadership skills, suggesting that he may have a significant role in their squad.
He claimed, “Sonny’s maturity is reflected in the leadership roles he’s been given and the high esteem he’s held in by United. Combined with the fact he’s the son of former Plymouth defender, Hasney Aljofree, he has a very strong footballing pedigree.”
The director of football also proudly stated that his club had beaten numerous League One teams to the punch by sealing the deal for Aljofree.
The youngster will hope to build on his football education and become a first team regular as quickly as possible at Meadow Lane.
