Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund faces an uncertain future at the club, having failed to convince Ruben Amorim of his ability.
United are scouring the market for a new striker as both Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee endured a torrid season spearheading United’s attack.
The Denmark international, in particular, got worse as the season wore on and ended the campaign with just four goals in the Premier League.
United are understood to be open to parting ways with Hojlund, who has attracted interest from a number of Serie A clubs.
Roma join race for Hojlund
According to Corriere dello Sport, the 22-year-old is viewed as Gian Piero Gasperini’s “dream” signing for AS Roma.
The Giallorossi are looking to hand their new manager, who left Atalanta to move to the Italian capital this summer, a new striker.
Their current focus is on signing Evan Ferguson from Brighton & Hove Albion, as he is seen as a “low-cost” solution. It is claimed the Premier League side are willing to send him on loan with an option to buy.
However, Roma are also following Hojlund. The Italian newspaper suggest Gasperini is a huge admirer of the Dane.
Manchester United want significant fee for Hojlund
Hojlund enjoyed a brilliant stint under the Italian tactician at Atalanta before moving to United in a £72 million deal in 2023. Despite his struggles at Old Trafford, his reputation in Italy remains promising.
It is believed Roma would attempt to sign Hojlund if they sell Artem Dovbyk this summer.
United are reportedly looking for a fee in the region of €40m-€50m (£35m-£43m) for Roma’s “dream” target.
The Red Devils’ pursuit of a new striker may also rely on Hojlund’s departure. His sale would allow United to make a move for a relatively high-profile striker. Amid their financial predicament, the Mancunians have been offered a number of free agents.
