Frustrated United turn to new star in transfer market, he’s the ideal number 10 for Amorim’s system – report

Manchester United appear to still be considering a move for Christopher Nkunku this summer.

Last month, United reportedly entered talks to sign Nkunku from Chelsea during the ongoing transfer window.

This came as Fabrizio Romano aired his belief that Nkunku could very likely leave Chelsea depending on what offers come along.

While no further moves have been made, it seems that United are not yet dismissing the possibility of pursuing a deal for Nkunku.

“Christopher Nkunku is admired by Manchester United as well as clubs in Europe,” The Athletic claimed this morning, suggesting that the hunt isn’t over yet.

This is not the first time that Nkunku has been linked with United, with the forward reportedly expressing an interest in a move to Old Trafford during the January transfer window.

It was around this time that United were allegedly pursuing a loan deal for the Frenchman, although no such deal ever transpired.

Since arriving at Chelsea from RB Leipzig in 2023, Nkunku has struggled to adjust to life at Stamford Bridge.

His debut season was marred by knee and hamstring injuries, while his second season was underwhelming, with the player only finding the back of the net on 15 occasions across all competitions.

Given his struggles, Nkunku’s ability to succeed at United is far from guaranteed.

Of course, Nkunku’s transfer could depend on United’s success with other targets over the coming weeks.

Bryan Mbeumo remains on United’s radar, with the club seeking a solution to the transfer fee disagreement with Brentford.

There are also the likes of Antoine Semenyo.

What’s more, the club has already signed Matheus Cunha, meaning that they could be overstocked in Nkunku’s position depending on which players leave the club this summer.
