United star set to divorce wife after just one year of marriage – report

Manchester United defender Matthijs de Ligt is reportedly getting divorced from his wife, AnneKee Molenaar.

De Ligt signed for United last summer after playing for European giants Ajax, Juventus and Bayern Munich.

The Dutchman enjoyed a relatively successful debut at the club in spite of the team’s overall poor season.

He played 42 matches in total and was a regular for both Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim over the course of the season.

Unfortunately, he suffered injury issues in the final few months of the campaign and missed the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

The 25 year old has also had bad news off the pitch as he is allegedly set to divorce his wife according to The Daily Star.

De Ligt only married Molenaar last summer in a low-key ceremony amidst his move to United and the Netherlands reaching the semi-final of Euro 2024.

The outlet reports that “the plan was for the duo to celebrate the wedding properly this month with a party in Italy alongside friends and family.”

The party was cancelled at the last minute though and De Ligt has since been on holiday to Ibiza and Barbados without his wife.

According to Realityfbi (via the Daily Star), “De Ligt is said to have grown increasingly bothered by his wife’s spiritual lifestyle.”

The Star also reports that “AnneKee still has pictures of De Ligt on her Instagram, but the last time the United centre-back made an appearance in one of her social media posts was seven weeks ago, when they went on a date together.”

United fans will be hoping that De Ligt can recover from his injury and off-field issues to be a key component of a young defensive line next season and to step up in the continued absence of Lisandro Martinez.
