United in for massive pay day as former player forces Real Madrid move through Club World Cup boycott – report

Former Manchester United full-back Alvaro Carreras appears to be pushing for the advancement of his impending transfer to Real Madrid.

Earlier this month, The Peoples Person noted that the Spanish centre back was set to move from Benfica to Real Madrid for a fee in the region of €45m, which will be paid in two instalments of €22.5m each.

What is notable about this transfer is that Man United are set to pocket 20% of the sale due to a sell-on clause in the player’s contract. This would see United rake in €9m.

Although there had allegedly been delays over Carreras’ move, it appears that it is now on, with Real Madrid and Benfica reportedly reaching an agreement over the structure of his transfer.

Now, it appears even more evident that the 22 year old is set to join the Spanish giants.

“Alvaro Carreras already has an agreement with Real Madrid and refused to play in the round of 16 match of the Club World Cup against Chelsea,” Correio da Manhã reported today.

“That’s why Bruno Lage didn’t put him in the starting lineup and then, during the match, made five substitutions without any of them including the Spanish defender.”

“He played reluctantly in the game against Boca Juniors, in his debut, in which he received a yellow card, and before half-time in the following match, against Auckland, he had already received another yellow card,” the article continued, suggesting that Carreras no longer has an appetite for representing Benfica despite the transfer not yet being confirmed.

“Lage realised that Carreras was not committed and he did not play in the second half of the match against the New Zealanders,” the report claimed, referring to Benfica’s 6-0 thumping of Auckland City in the group stage of the tournament.

For United fans, Carreras’ transfer will be a confusing development. Not only has he shown great growth since departing United, but the player’s contract includes a €20 million buy-back clause.

Not only would this be a reasonable price tag for the player, but he could also prove to be an ideal fit for manager Ruben Amorim’s system, particularly at the wing-back position.

Still, any funding that United earn from the player’s move would be beneficial, especially as Amorim looks to perform a substantial squad overhaul this summer.
