Huge boost for United as €70m Bundesliga sensation tells his club he wants to leave – report

Xavi Simons has informed RB Leipzig of his desire to leave the club this summer.

Despite a productive individual campaign, the Bundesliga side endured their worst season since promotion in 2016, finishing seventh and missing out on European competition.

Simons, widely regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting young midfielders, now sees this as the right time to take the next step in his career.

Leipzig, with two years remaining on his contract, are open to a sale but are holding out for a minimum fee of €70million.

Manchester United have previously monitored Simons, although no formal approach has been made.

His availability could spark renewed interest, especially given the uncertain futures of several attackers at Old Trafford.

United have already secured the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, but should Jadon Sancho or Alejandro Garnacho depart, reinforcements would be necessary.

Simons’ profile—young, versatile, and technically gifted, fits the club’s current recruitment model.

There is also the appeal of a Premier League move for the Dutchman, who would relish the chance to showcase his talents at the highest level in English football.

A move to United, with its rich history and global platform, would be a logical progression.

Whether the club makes a formal move remains to be seen. Financial priorities and squad planning could determine the viability of a deal.

Nonetheless, with Leipzig receptive to a sale at the right price, United may see this as a rare opportunity to land a player of Simons’ calibre.
