United’s pursuit of versatile 25-yo takes fresh transfer twist as his club responds decisively – report

Real Madrid have raced to secure Brahim Diaz’s future with a new deal amid whispers that he is on Manchester United’s radar.

United are bracing for a busy transfer window, following an extremely poor 2024/25 season in which they finished a lowly 15th place in the Premier League.

Ruben Amorim’s side suffered 18 top-flight defeats and collected just 42 points. There is a strong determination to rebuild a truly competitive squad, and with the signing of Matheus Cunha now complete, the club’s focus has fully turned to reinforcing other key areas.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person claimed Diaz is a target for United and Arsenal amidst uncertainty over his future at Madrid.

The report noted that although new boss Xabi Alonso is a fan of Díaz, there’s no certainty he will play a key role in his plans, particularly following the arrivals of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Franco Mastantuono, along with the imminent signing of Alvaro Carreras from Benfica.

It was further stated that while Madrid are not actively looking to offload Diaz, they are open to listening to offers for him.

However, in a fresh twist, it has now emerged that Diaz will continue at the Santiago Bernabeu, having been offered fresh terms to extend his stay.

According to Spanish news outlet Marca [via TEAMtalk], Los Blancos have reached an agreement to renew the Moroccan’s contract.

Diaz is also understood to be keen on carrying on with Madrid.

His current contract runs out in 2027 but he is poised to put pen to paper on a new deal to remain with the La Liga giants for an additional two years.

Diaz is said to have “convinced both Real Madrid’s management and Xabi Alonso, who sees in him a player profile that is lacking in the current squad.”

This information has been corroborated by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano who wrote on X, “Real Madrid are in advanced talks over new deal with Brahim Díaz. The player has already said yes to staying and extending.”

“Agreement almost reached with talks underway for 2 weeks.”

It seems United’s interest in Diaz was somewhat premature, with no real substance to the speculation that a move to Old Trafford was ever genuinely on the table.

However, if United were indeed eyeing the versatile 25-year-old, then they will have to look elsewhere.
