Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot have been celebrating Portugal’s victory in the UEFA Nations League.

Roberto Martinez’s side lifted the trophy for the second time by beating current holders Spain, coming out on top 5-3 in a penalty shootout, following a 2-2 draw.

Fernandes kept his customary composure to effortlessly slot his spot-kick past Unai Simon, with Alvaro Morata’s miss later in proceedings proving pivotal, Diogo Costa saving to set up the winning effort by Ruben Neves.

Fernandes did find the net soon after the restart in normal time, firing past Simon from an angle, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

He played the full 120 minutes and took on the captain’s armband, when Cristiano Ronaldo was substituted.

Our former forward equalised to make it 2-2, after Spain had twice led. Martin Zubimendi’s opener was cancelled out by the outstanding Nuno Mendes, only for Mikel Oyarzabal to regain the advantage for the reigning European champions as the break approached.

Dalot was an unused substitute but was going through all the emotions on the sidelines with his pal Ronaldo during the shootout.

Once it was decided in Portugal’s favour, Cristiano fell to the ground with elation and relief, as Dalot embraced him before dashing off to join his other team-mates in celebration.

Fernandes handed the trophy over to Ronaldo while the 40-year-old superstar was conducting his post-match interview.
