Inter Milan want not one but two United stars this summer, the second target stood tall under Amorim – report

It is obvious that Manchester United need to improve the team’s attack first and foremost in the summer, but given the number of departures, additions at the back would also be welcome.

Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof are both set to leave upon the expiration of their deals, while the injury records of both Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt are cause for concern.

The Dutchman, when fit, was one of the first names on the team sheet, but he missed 13 games due to two major injuries, including the all-important Europa League final.

He mainly played at the heart of the backline but Harry Maguire was forced to occupy the position due to his absence.

Matthijs de Ligt has interest from Inter

And now, surprisingly, SportMediaset (via FCInter) have claimed that Inter Milan are eyeing the Netherlands international this summer.

The Nerazzurri, however, cannot afford the ex-Ajax star on a permanent deal this summer given their reported pursuit of both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

Which is why they are contemplating a loan deal for the 25-year-old. There is no mention of an option or obligation in the report.

The centre-back has the experience of playing in the Serie A, having plied his trade at Juventus for three years between 2019 and 2022.

Wanted on loan

“Inter will focus above all on the defense, where the future of Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij will have to be deciphered.

“Inter are apparently exploring the possibility of arriving on loan for Matthijs de Ligt from Manchester United and, at the same time, have never abandoned the idea of an assault on Atalanta for Giorgio Scalvini.”

In the past, there was talk of a loan deal including an option to buy and whether the same formula will be applied remains to be seen.

While INEOS remain open to the idea of a fire sale in the summer, they are unlikely to let go of Matthijs de Ligt on loan. Only a huge offer would see the 20-time English league champions part way with last summer’s signing.
