Manchester United’s Mason Mount has stressed the need to finish the season strongly in the club’s two remaining friendly fixtures in Asia.
United are currently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where they will face the ASEAN All-Stars later on this afternoon.
The Red Devils will then play Hong Kong on Friday before returning back to Manchester.
Whilst there have been reports of some grumbles from the players about the money-spinning trip, Mount stressed the importance of continuing to maintain their standards in the friendlies.
Towards the end of the season, Mount regained his place in the first eleven after another injury-hit campaign. He even started in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.
Speaking to the media in the pre-match press conference (via the club’s official website) Mount claimed, “we’re all very excited to be over here, we don’t get the opportunity to be over this side of the world and see our fans over here very often, so we obviously want to make the most of it.”
Mount also touched on the unique appeal of the club across all four corners of the globe and highlighted the excitement that their arrival has caused.
He explained, “we got off the plane and there were hundreds of people waiting for us, to take pictures and welcome us to the country. So I’m very excited to be over here and obviously looking forward to the game.”
United’s number seven then dismissed fears that the team would not take the matches seriously.
Mount added, “as the gaffer said, any time you put on that shirt and you’re representing the club you want to perform to the best of your ability.”
He stressed, “We want to win the game and it’s going to be a competitive game playing against the All-Stars, so we’re looking forward to it and we want to perform the best we can.”
The England international will be hoping that he can finish the season on a high note before attempting to maintain his fitness next year in what will surely be a massive 12 months in his United career.
