Encouraging team news from Tuesday’s training

Tuesday 20 May 2025 11:28

Manchester United appear to have received a triple boost on the eve of the UEFA Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao.

Diogo Dalot, Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee have had spells on the sidelines in the build-up to Wednesday’s big game, but all three players were spotted taking part in the team’s pre-flight session on the Carrington grass this (Tuesday) morning.

While their availability for the final is still to be confirmed, the fact they were involved in the portion of training captured live on MUTV is surely an encouraging sign ahead of the expected announcement of Ruben Amorim’s travelling group later today.

After picking up an injury in April’s defeat at Newcastle United, Zirkzee was ruled out for the season but the forward may have made a timely return to training, having already netted against Real Sociedad and Lyon on our run to the Europa League final.

Defenders Dalot and Yoro, meanwhile, have started every one of this season’s European knockout matches when available but the former hasn’t appeared since our Premier League meeting with Wolves last month, while the latter was forced off in the recent top-flight clash with West Ham United.

Zirkzee’s Dutch compatriot and fellow recent absentee Matthijs de Ligt wasn’t seen in our last session before we head to the Basque Country, but did an individual workout elsewhere on the grass.

Youngsters Toby Collyer and Ayden Heaven continued to build their fitness back up by training with the group, after returning to the matchday squad against Chelsea on Friday following some time out.

Jonny Evans, who hasn’t played since scoring in our League Cup defeat to Spurs in December, wasn’t involved at Stamford Bridge but took part today too, as did Chido Obi despite his ineligibility for the final.

WHAT’S STILL TO COME ON TUESDAY?

The squad are bound for Bilbao this afternoon and we’ll bring you exclusive coverage from Manchester Airport as the Reds take off, including the anticipated full list of players who are travelling.

Then, at 18:00 BST, we’ve got a live press conference show for you from tomorrow night’s venue, San Mames. Our crew at the stadium will bring you the media briefing, where Ruben is due to be joined by Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire.

Depending on timings, you may also be able to see United take a pre-match walk around the pitch and Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou address the assembled journalists during the special 75-minute programme.

It will be shown exclusively for subscribers on MUTV, ManUtd.com and in the United App, so subscribe now to avoid missing out. A full video replay will be available on demand later in the evening.
