United plotting surprise move for €33m Inter star who broke Barcelona’s hearts in CL – report

Manchester United are interested in Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi, as per reports.

There have been plenty of question marks over Ruben Amorim’s tactical ideas and whether his back three formation is good enough to put United back on the map, particularly because the majority of Europe’s biggest clubs don’t use the system.

However, Simone Inzaghi’s Inter could be a blueprint for United, having reached the Champions League final by beating the likes of Barcelona with a back three formation.

Not only Inzaghi’s ideas but also his players could prove to be brilliant options for the United head coach.

Recently, Gary Neville urged the Red Devils to sign Inter’s Denzel Dumfries, suggesting the Dutchman would be an ideal wing-back for Amorim. Now, a report claims United are following one of Inter’s midfielders.

According to Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto (via Utd District), United are monitoring Frattesi’s situation ahead of the summer transfer window.

It is claimed that the 25-year-old has “big chances” of leaving the Nerazzurri this month. He moved to San Siro from Sassuolo in 2023 in a deal worth around €33 million.

The dynamic midfielder is known for his athleticism and ability to regularly get into the box from deep. He has scored seven goals in all competitions this term.

His most important strike came against Barcelona early this month, as he scored the match-winning goal in extra time to book a place in the Champions League final. The Italian received the ball from Mehdi Taremi inside the penalty area before rattling the net with a well-placed shot.

Despite his impressive work in the final third, Frattesi has had to struggle to start regularly under Inzaghi, who is blessed with quality midfielders like Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Nicolò Barella. The youngster has only been handed nine starts in Serie A this campaign.

It is thought that United “made a call in recent weeks” to enquire about his situation.

Apart from the Mancunians, Napoli, Atletico Madrid, and AS Roma have also shown interest in signing the Inter talent, and more clubs are expected to join the race for his services.
