Left-back Harry Amass has been named Manchester United’s Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year after a standout 2024/25 campaign.

Following an excellent debut season with the club, winning three trophies with the Under-18s in 2024, Amass has waited patiently and worked hard to earn himself first-team opportunities under Ruben Amorim.

He made his debut as a substitute in victory at Leicester City on 16 March, and has since started four further Premier League games.

Amass has also helped United reach the UEFA Europa League final, contributing to both the breathless 5-4 extra-time victory over Olympique Lyonnais in the quarter-final and the semi-final success over Athletic Club.

Amass has become a first-team regular under Ruben Amorim in recent weeks, having waited patiently for the opportunity.

In addition, Harry has represented England U18s on seven occasions this season, captaining the young Lions against Portugal in victory in March.

The 18-year-old joined United from Watford in 2023 and had a stellar first campaign with the Academy, helping the U18s to three pieces of silverware: the Premier League northern and national titles, and the Premier League Cup.

His performances saw him earn opportunities in the senior training and matchday squads, but he had to be patient for a first appearance.

“It’s helped me grow as a person and a player, but especially off the pitch, growing up as a young lad and trying to grow into a man,” Harry told us recently.

“Waiting for your chance, everyone telling you that you have to be patient, to keep working hard, so that’s what I tried to keep doing.

“I think [the debut] was a feeling of relief. I’ve been waiting for a long time, being patient so when it finally happened, I got into the dressing room and took it all in for a moment by myself.

“When I first signed, it was about developing as a player, getting better, which I think I’ve done; it was about enjoying my football, which I think I’ve done with all the experiences and the trophies, and then it was about getting first-team football. And that’s come as well. So I think all the reasons I’ve signed have happened. Next is to keep working hard, to show that people can trust me and that I’m a good person off the pitch as well as a good player. Keep giving my best and hopefully get more minutes.”

Nick Cox, Director of Academy, said: “We’re delighted to recognise Harry’s hard work and achievements with this award.

“Since joining the club, he’s shown an ability to adapt, settle into a new environment and progress as a person and a player. Harry had an outstanding first season with the club, and was already enjoying time around the first team in 2023/24 as a result.

Amass enjoyed a trophy-laden first season at the club, and has continued to push on since.

“Harry has represented the Under-18s in the league and FA Youth Cup this season, enjoyed UEFA Youth League experience at Old Trafford and in the Netherlands with the Under-19s, and played for the Under-21s in the league and EFL Trophy. These experiences, and the work done by the Professional Development Phase staff, helped him prepare for the opportunity when it came, and we’ve been delighted to see the trust placed in Harry by Ruben Amorim and his staff.”

Amass inherits our Young Player of the Year award from Ethan Wheatley, who made his senior bow as the club’s 250th Academy graduate in 2023/24.

Other notable past recipients include Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

Congratulations on the award, Harry!
