Manchester United Women defender Gabby George is desperate to feature in Sunday’s Adobe FA Cup final against Chelsea.
The 28-year-old missed out on our previous two finals, against the west Londoners and Tottenham Hotspur, and has mixed emotions after being forced out with a knee injury.
Although Marc Skinner’s side saw off Spurs 4-0 to lift the trophy last year, she concedes it was a bittersweet experience because she was sidelined, as was also the case in 2023.
“Both times, when I’ve sat at Wembley, I’ve dreamt of being able to be involved, rather than being out injured,” George told Inside United, the official club magazine.
“Personally, it was a great moment for me [winning the semi-final against Manchester City]. I was actually quite emotional, because it feels like it’s not meant to be for you when, every single time, you’re sat there and you’re in the stand.
“You’re supporting the girls to the best of your capacity and I enjoyed the celebrations – don’t get me wrong! – but when the girls were walking up the stairs and we were stood on the pitch, it hurt.
” I was absolutely over the moon for the girls and the club,” she added. “But I wanted to be involved. So, hopefully, third time lucky and I can be involved in the squad in whatever capacity that is. But just being fit and being available is the most important thing.
“I’ve said that through this whole season. My biggest aim is to be available and, so far, I’ve been available for all the games that I’ve been asked to be available for.
“So it’s just about progressing on that and continuing to push. But it’s also important to celebrate the little wins, because you realise how big they are when you are unable to do them.”
