Leeds and Burnley promoted to Premier League

Leeds United and Burnley confirmed their places in the Premier League for the 2025/26 season, with Championship wins on Easter Monday.

Leeds thrashed Stoke City 6-0 at Elland Road, meaning victory for Burnley over third-placed Sheffield United at Turf Moor in the late game would seal promotion for both sides.

The Clarets, who were aiming to extend their 30-match unbeaten run in the division, took the lead when top scorer Josh Brownhill smashed a finish into the roof of the net.

Tom Cannon equalised – only the 15th goal Scott Parker’s side have conceded this term – but Brownhill slotted home a penalty in first-half stoppage time when our former midfielder Hannibal was fouled.

Despite Blades’ pressure, the Lancashire outfit held on to move on to 94 points with Leeds – an eight-point lead which is unassailable with two games left to play.

Burnley have bounced back to the top-flight at the first time of asking, while our rivals from over the Pennines return after two years away, having lost the play-off final to Southampton 12 months ago.

Now they’ll swap places with the Saints who, along with Leicester City, have already had their relegation to the second tier confirmed.

They are set to be joined by Ipswich Town, who lie 15 points adrift of 17th-placed West Ham United with five games of the top-flight campaign remaining.

The third club going up from the Championship will be confirmed on Saturday 24 May, when the play-off final takes place at Wembley.

Sheffield United and Sunderland have already secured their post-season berths, with two from Bristol City, Coventry City, Middlesbrough, Millwall and Blackburn Rovers bidding to be involved too.
