Who was Man of the Match v Leicester City?

Manchester United earned a resounding 3-0 over Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday evening.

Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes got themselves on the scoresheet at the King Power Stadium to defeat the Foxes.

But there were also a number of strong defensive performances to keep the clean sheet intact, including some in improvised positions following the injury to Ayden Heaven and a debut for Academy graduate Harry Amass.

Once again it was that man, our captain, Bruno Fernandes, who scooped up the fan-voted award for the second time this week after achieving the same feat in Thursday’s game against Real Sociedad.

He didn’t score a hat-trick this time around, but he did manage a trio of goal involvements, setting up both Hojlund and Garnacho before rounding off his all action displaying with a goal of his own in the 90th minute.

There was some discussion around whether the second assist came off the Portugal international or Leicester’s Jamie Vardy, but there was little doubt in Bruno’s mind.

“No, it’s my touch. If it’s Jamie, the ball goes to the edge of the box. I have to claim this,” he assuredly told Sky Sports after the game.

But, much as was the theme following United’s Fernandes-led advance into the quarter-final stage of the Europa League on Thursday, our captain was keen to throw the attention back on the team in his discussions with the broadcaster.

“I just focus on doing the best I can for the team,” he continued. “Obviously, I want to score as many goals as I can and [get] as many assists as I can because it’s a big part of my game, and I need to assist my team-mates like I did today to Rasmus and to Garna.

“But the main thing for me now is getting points in the league. We want to get as up [the table] as possible for us to finish the season as strong as we can.

“That’s the main focus for me. It’s to help the team in the best way I can.”

Hojlund came in second place with six per cent of the vote. Despite waiting a while for his goal to come along, he couldn’t have dispatched his finish much cooler to break the deadlock.

There was a tie for third between Garnacho and Ayden Heaven on five per cent each. The former could have had two goals on the board but for a marginal offside call, and the latter put together a marvellous first-half display in his first Premier League start, before being forced off with an injury not long after the break.

But, once again, there was little anyone could have done to prise this prize out of our captain’s grasp.
