Two key United figures quit the club as crisis crippling Amorim’s team worsens – report

Manchester United’s head of sports medicine Gary O’Driscoll and senior men’s first-team doctor Jim Moxon have reportedly made the decision to leave the club.

United are currently dealing with a devastating injury crisis, with ten senior players sidelined with different issues.

Lisandro Martínez has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to an ACL injury sustained last month while Amad Diallo is also a major doubt to play again this term as he recovers from an ankle problem.

The other senior United stars currently unavailable to Amorim for selection include Altay Bayindir, Jonny Evans, Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte.

To make up the numbers, Amorim has been forced to include youngsters from the academy in his matchday squads. Chido Obi made his senior debut in the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, while Ayden Heaven featured in the Premier League for the first time on Sunday as United played to a 1-1 draw with Arsenal.

According to the Daily Mail, O’Driscoll has decided “now is the right time to step down” from his position at United, having implemented several positive changes across the medical department and laid the foundation for future improvements.

It’s understood that O’Driscoll’s exit is a “huge surprise,” having joined the club less than two years ago from rivals Arsenal.

He is highly regarded in sports medicine, boasting several years of experience.

Meanwhile, Moxon has quit United to pursue another opportunity elsewhere.

The Mail note, “Club sources say that the dual departure is a coincidence and not connected with the latest round of up to 200 redundancies.”

“The departures of O’Driscoll and Moxon are not connected to the fact that the United squad suffered more than 60 cases of injury and illness last season or that head coach Ruben Amorim is currently without 10 players and has been unable to fill the bench in recent games.”

The two medical experts will remain at United during a transitional period as the Red Devils go about identifying replacements for them.
