“I’m unequivocal about that”: Ratcliffe makes massive statement on Amorim’s future at the club

Manchester United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has claimed that Ruben Amorim will definitely be the manager next season at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils decided to keep Erik ten Hag last summer in spite of a poor finish of eighth position in the Premier League last season.

They eventually realised the errors of their ways and sacked the Dutchman just before Halloween and appointed Ruben Amorim from Sporting CP.

Despite the new manager’s popularity with the fans, it has been an incredibly tough time as the club find themselves in 14th in the league and they have been knocked out of both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.

The season completely rests on progress in the Europa League as they welcome Real Sociedad to Old Trafford on Thursday in the second leg of the last 16 tie after the first game was drawn 1-1 in Spain.

There have been rumours that United may be looking to part ways with Amorim due to his poor results but Ratcliffe firmly put such rumours to bed.

In a previous interview with The Times, Ratcliffe claimed he liked the manager and that he thought the Portuguese was doing a good job in difficult circumstances.

Speaking to Gary Neville on The Overlap, Ratcliffe once again reaffirmed his support and commitment to the head coach.

When asked whether Amorim would still be the manager at the start of next season Ratcliffe retorted, “I’m unequivocal about that.”

He also confirmed that he was aware that the club would need to recruit players in the summer that suited Amorim’s system including wing-backs and number tens that play behind the striker.

The Ineos chief also stated, “but bear in mind, I am backing the management team. Because at the end of the day it is Omar (Berrada), it is Jason (Wilcox), it is the management team that operate Manchester United.”

When asked about who directly appointed Ruben, he confirmed his key role in the process as he simply responded, “Omar and Jason and me.”

The public backing will come as a great relief to most United fans who are sick and tired of the turmoil and uncertainty surrounding the club. Amorim will also surely be relieved as he will know that he will have a summer of training and recruitment to try and turn next season into a much bigger success than this one.
