Deeply personal issue develops for Ruben Amorim, could derail his future at United – report

Ruben Amorim’s wife is reportedly unhappy in Manchester, adding to the problems that are piling up on the United head coach’s plate.

The Red Devils have had a terrible season domestically as they have slumped to 14th in the league and look on course to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League for the first time in history.

Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag in November but he has only managed to win five out of 16 league matches and the club has recorded a goal difference of minus six during this time.

The Red Devils have also exited the FA Cup and Carabao Cup but they do have a lot to play for in the Europa League after a 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad yesterday in the first leg of the last sixteen tie.

Amorim has also come under criticism for his playing style as numerous pundits have ripped into his lack of willingness to adapt his 3-4-3 system in spite of a significant number of United players lacking the skill to suit his demands.

To add to his problems, The Sun report that there are rumours that Amorim’s wife Maria is also unhappy in the city.

They state that, “Manchester United’s winter of misery has put Ruben Amorim in the spotlight. But the city’s miserable winter has taken its toll as well.”

“Training ground talk is that Amorim’s wife Maria has struggled to come to terms with the wind, rain and dark nights over the first few months of his Old Trafford reign.”

The United manager originally moved over by himself but he revealed that his family joined him in Manchester at the start of the year and he moved into a suburban house after spending just over a month at a city centre hotel.

Manchester is famous for its drizzly weather and will undoubtedly be a stark contrast to the sunny conditions that the family will be used to in Lisbon, Portugal.

The good news is that with the beginning of spring, the days will soon get a lot longer and brighter in Manchester and numerous players and families from sunnier climates have been able to settle without any major issue throughout the club’s history.

United’s fans will hope that the beginning of the spring weather will also see a brightening of the mood around Old Trafford and that some more positive results on the pitch will be just the anecdote needed.

Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
