United willing to trigger release clause of next Sergio Busquets, would leave their PL rivals shocked – report

Manchester United are prepared to step up their efforts to sign Martin Zubimendi ahead of Arsenal, as per reports.

Premier League clubs have been chasing Zubimendi since last summer. Ahead of the current season, Liverpool pushed to secure his services from Real Sociedad but the Merseyside outfit couldn’t find an agreement.

In January, Arsenal were heavily linked with the 26-year-old, who is regarded as one of the best holding midfielders in LaLiga, owing to his excellent positional awareness and composure in possession. He has drawn comparisons to Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets.

Arsenal remain keen on signing the Spaniard at the end of the campaign but now they face competition from United.

Manchester United want Martin Zubimendi

According to Fichajes, the Red Devils could “enter the bidding” and “complicate” the Gunners’ summer transfer plans.

The 26-year-old is tied to Reale Arena until the summer of 2027 but his contract includes a release clause worth €60 million.

The Spanish outlet claim United see the Sociedad star as a “fundamental pillar” for their project and the Mancunians “would be willing to match” his release clause.

Further, United are expected to guarantee him a “leading role” in their squad.

It is added that Arsenal might not be able to do the same due to strong competition in the middle of the park in North London.

At Old Trafford, meanwhile, there is a glaring need for a new midfielder to shield the backline and progress the play from deep.

Both Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are no longer physically able to make a difference for the Mancunians. Meanwhile, Amorim has used Kobbie Mainoo as a wide playmaker in his formation.

For now, though, Zubimendi is thought to be focused on Sociedad, who will face United in the round of 16 of the Europa League this Thursday.
