MUST launch scathing attack on Ineos, challenge them to “value unique role” of fans – report

The Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (MUST) continue to battle Ineos’ decision to raise matchday ticket prices for fans.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has instigated numerous ways to raise funds due to the precarious financial situation and steeply rising debt that the club finds itself in.

They have taken numerous controversial decisions such as sacking hundreds of staff members and cutting Sir Alex Ferguson’s ambassadorial role.

Another hugely unpopular decision taken by the owners was to hike up matchday tickets to £66.

MUST have already sent a letter to Ineos to express their concerns and Sir Jim Ratcliffe was confronted by angry fans after United’s win over Fulham in London at the end of January.

The Daily Mail report that MUST are continuing their fight after they “launched the ‘Make United united’ campaign in a bid to see ticket prices frozen.”

In an open letter to the club they acknowledged the financial difficulties that the club is in but explained why raising ticket prices was not the way to go about raising funds.

They argue that “there is a strong correlation between fan relations and both financial and on-field outcomes.”

“Poorly timed changes to ticketing policies risk undermining the very atmosphere and support that drive success on the pitch, leading to far greater losses in revenue than any gains from ticket price increases or policy changes.”

The trust argued that by freezing prices of tickets, Ineos can still show they “value the unique role of fans in Manchester United’s success.”

The organization have not only called for action on the pricing of tickets but have also called for greater cooperation with fans over future decisions of this ilk.

MUST say that they fear that Ratcliffe will increase the price of matchday tickets even more in the future and price out a group of loyal fans from following the team they love.
