Manchester United star Leny Yoro has insisted that Ruben Amorim enjoys a good relationship with the players, who are still fully behind him, even as the club’s woes on the pitch persist.
United currently lie in 15th place in the Premier League table after suffering their 12th top-flight loss of the season on Sunday, at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur. James Maddison scored the only goal of the fixture to pile further misery on Amorim and his squad.
Of these 12 defeats, Amorim has overseen eight of them, having won 14 points from as many games at the helm.
The same ratio would see United finish the season on 42 points, comfortably enough to avoid relegation.
Amorim handed Yoro his debut in December and since then, the Frenchman has featured a further 15 times for United. Yoro has demonstrated glimpses of his brilliance and high potential as part of Amorim’s three-man defence system.
The teenager was unfortunately not available for selection on Sunday’s clash with Tottenham. He and Christian Eriksen were ruled out of the game due to illness.
Speaking to club media, Yoro revealed that Amorim’s description of him as a “really fast” and “modern defender” fills him with confidence.
He also noted that Amorim still enjoys a cordial relationship with the players, mostly because of his brilliant man management.
Earlier today, a report covered by The Peoples Person claimed that a some United stars are losing faith with Amorim but according to Yoro, this is not the case.
Yoro said, “Of course, [that] is good for me. This is a good impression, and I need to do what he says on the pitch. I am confident with this, maybe I am not 100 per cent of my capability but I know with time and experience I will be.”
“I spoke with him when he came to the club, [and I thought] this is a very good coach who likes to speak with the players and really likes to have a good relationship with the players.”
The former Lille star added, “He understands us a lot because he was a player before so he knows a lot about what it’s like, the feelings you can have when you play or don’t play and when you have a bad game.”
“He knows how to manage this, and I think this is the most important [thing].”
“Tactically he is top. We don’t have too much training to learn everything, but he tries to give us everything before the game to be 100 per cent the best version of the team. We know he is with us and we are with him, so it’s good.”
After the meeting at Tottenham, Amorim expressed hope that Yoro will be back in time for Saturday’s clash at Goodison Park against David Moyes’ Everton.
