United Treble winner tells Amorim to disregard Harry Kane for this high flying PL superstar – report

After failing to add an attacker to their ranks in the January transfer window, Ruben Amorim’s goal-shy side will have to up their efficiency in forward areas with the current crop of first team stars.

With Marcus Rashford and Antony expected to make their respective loan deals permanent at the end of the season, United are short on numbers and quality up front and will almost certainly be using the summer market to add some much needed firepower.

United are consistently linked with a raft of names across Europe that could come and improve Amorim’s options with Bayern Munich and England star Harry Kane always high on the shortlist.

However, as reported by MSN News, former United striker Teddy Sheringham has urged the club to cast their net elsewhere with Kane now facing the twilight of his career.

“Is Harry Kane the right man now? Probably not. It should have been dealt with two years ago.

“I know he’s still scoring goals for Bayern Munich, but I don’t know if it would have the same impression on everybody if they were to get him now,” he said.

Sheringham then named Newcastle striker Alexander Isak as the man United should be targeting, but admits they would have a tough time convincing him to make the switch given the current state of affairs at Old Trafford.

“United need to start going for younger guns, but I mean, who’s out there? Would Isak come away from Newcastle to go to Man United at the moment?

“You’d like to think he would, being a Man United fan, but I’m not so sure he would, so the further they fall down the pecking order, the less chance they’ve got of signing top players,” he added.

The Treble winner says United are “no longer in for top players” and cited them missing out on the likes of Declan Rice as to where they now stand in the transfer market.

Despite Sheringham’s claims, United have spent big on players in recent years, however, the return on investment has been poor with the aforementioned Antony being a prime example of wasted millions.

This has left Amorim having to work to a much tighter budget given the spurned cash that has left United close to the edge of PSR restrictions.

However, the Portuguese head coach will be expecting a busy summer given the lack of options in his current first team squad and finding a striker capable of leading the line at Old Trafford will no doubt be top of his wish list.
