Manchester United are reportedly one of two Premier League clubs that were turned down by Barcelona star Fermin Lopez after making an enquiry for him.
United have been linked to Lopez on multiple occasions in the past but needless to say, a transfer has never materialised.
A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United were determined to sign the youngster as a potential replacement for Bruno Fernandes.
Under new boss Hansi Flick, Lopez is proving to be a key squad player. He ended January by stealing the limelight in a dominant 7-1 win over Valencia, netting two goals and providing a further two assists.
So far this season, Lopez has made 24 appearances across all competitions, managing four goals and five assists.
According to Sport, his performances have caught the eye of a number of top English sides, most notably United and Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.
The news outlet reveals that United and Villa demonstrated a willingness to pay a transfer fee of €70m (£58.3m) to get a deal done but the 21-year-old was not interested.
“Fermin did not want to listen to either of the two offers that came in, from Manchester United and Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.”
“Fermin Lopez made it clear from the start that he did not want to listen to any offer. His desire is to succeed at Barcelona and he made this clear to the club and his representatives.”
It’s believed that United and Villa asked about the Barca man during the just-closed winter transfer window.
In October last year, Lopez put pen to paper on a new five-year contract to extend his stay at Camp Nou.
It’s believed that his new terms contain a release clause worth €500m (£416.5m). Therefore, despite Barca’s dire financial shape, they’re under no immense pressure to entertain offers for the player.
Ruben Amorim’s men are back in action on Sunday, February 16 when they go away to Tottenham Hotspur.
