United players come out in support of teammate sidelined until next season – report

Manchester United paid tribute to Lisandro Martinez before their FA Cup match versus Leicester City.

The Red Devils fell behind in the first half but put on a much more spirited display in the second to rally and secure a last-gasp 2-1 victory to move into the fifth round.

Last weekend, United fell to a disappointing 0-2 home defeat to Crystal Palace.

In much worse news however, they lost Lisandro Martinez to injury for the foreseeable future and almost certainly the rest of the season as he went down late on in the match.

It was officially announced that the Argentina international suffered a cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, one of the most serious in football.

Before the match at Old Trafford, United wore special warm-up jackets to show their support to their injured teammate.

United players were seen warming up for their FA Cup tie against Leicester at Old Trafford wearing t-shirts featuring the message in Spanish ‘Mucha Fuerza Licha’.

This translates to “Lots of strength, Licha”.

Martinez responded to the show of support by posting on X, “thanks for the show of support, guys! I’ll come back stronger.”

Commenting on Martinez’s injury before the match Ruben Amorim stated, “Licha is a difficult situation.”

“He’s going to be out for a while, we don’t know the extent of the injury, but it’s going to take time.”

ACL injuries can often take six to nine months to recover from and competitive athletes may need a little time longer, so United fans are unlikely to see their star defender in action until a couple of months into the new season.

Alex is a huge Manchester United fan, inspired by greats of his homeland such as George Best, Harry Gregg and Norman Whiteside. Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
