Amorim reveals team news for Leicester tie

Ruben Amorim has been asked about Manchester United’s plans for Friday night’s Emirates FA Cup fourth-round tie against Leicester City.

The Reds take on Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Foxes in a 20:00 GMT kick-off, after dumping Arsenal out of the competition at the previous stage.

Lisandro Martinez is absent, after suffering a knee injury during last weekend’s game against Crystal Palace. A club statement confirmed a cruciate-ligament issue will rule the in-form Argentina international out of action.

Fellow left-sided defender Luke Shaw is also being treated carefully and will not be rushed back.

“Licha is a difficult situation,” Amorim said at his pre-match press conference at Carrington. “He’s going to be out for a while.

“We don’t know the extent of the injury but it’s an injury that is going to take time. Luke, just a little bit, one small issue in a different area from the last injury, so we’ll try to be careful with Luke.”

New recruits Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven are both available and eligible, if selected.

“We’ll see,” our head coach said about their potential involvement. “You guys have to wait for tomorrow! But they are ready to play and they are two more solutions to help us in this moment.”

Jonny Evans is set to miss out on a reunion with his former club, with whom he won the FA Cup in 2021, after beating United en route to Wembley in the clubs’ last meeting in the competition.

Mason Mount, who was at Chelsea when they lost to the Foxes that year in the final, is also still recovering from injury.

Marcus Rashford and Tyrell Malacia left the club this week on loan, to Aston Villa and PSV Eindhoven respectively.

LEICESTER’S TEAM NEWS

Wilfred Ndidi returns from injury as former United favourite Van Nistelrooy has suggested there will be alterations to his squad for his return to Old Trafford.

It is anticipated that teenagers Jeremy Monga (15) and Jake Evans (16) will travel to Manchester.

“Wilf is fine,” Van Nistelrooy commented. “He had a great week of training last week. He’ll be part of the squad tomorrow. There are two or three with light injuries, who are doubtful tomorrow. We’ll see when we announce the squad.

“They will be assessed today if they can travel. It’s something, an occasion, where these things can happen, opportunities for young players.”

Abdul Fatawu and Ricardo Pereira are still on the sidelines.
