“United gave their blessing”: Amorim’s first January signing will be in action on Friday – report

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim had identified wingback as a position that needed urgent reinforcements as soon as he stepped into the hot seat.

He got his wish as INEOS completed a deal for Lecce’s highly-rated wingback Patrick Dorgu for an initial fee of only €30 million, less than what was being written in the media.

The Dane’s medical, which was initially slated for Thursday, was shifted to Saturday and now Talksport have revealed that Lecce will include him in their matchday squad for Friday’s test against Parma.

United have given their blessings for the defender to play his last game for the Italian side on Friday and he will travel to Manchester for his medical on Saturday.

Dorgu will play his final Lecce game

“Manchester United have granted Lecce’s request to name Patrick Dorgu in their squad for one last time on Friday night.

“talkSPORT understands United gave their blessing for this – and the Denmark international will now fly to Manchester on Saturday to undergo his Red Devils medical.”

Given Lecce are fighting to preserve their Serie A status, head coach Marco Giampaolo is focussing on the game at hand instead of thinking about the player’s future.

“As of today, he’s a Lecce player, so he is called up and will travel for the game,” Giampaolo was quoted as saying during the pre-match press conference.

Medical on Saturday

Dorgu will not start the game and will be on the bench but should Giampaolo require him to save the game, he might be called upon later in the game.

While Lecce fans would get to bid their star goodbye, it is not the most prudent call from a United perspective. The Red Devils cannot afford a last-minute injury given their pressing need for the Denmark international.

Diogo Dalot, despite his goal against FCSB, is not the perfect wingback while Amorim has already conceded that Luke Shaw will take more time to return to action.

Hopefully, he remains unscathed and joins up with his new teammates as soon as possible. While the Crystal Palace game will come too soon for him , the FA Cup tie against Leicester City might be the first time fans get to watch him in action.
