“Medical as early as next Thursday”: Contact between United superstar and European giants expected in the “next days” – reports

Manchester United are currently trying to offload Marcus Rashford this January after the forward came out and expressed his desire to leave his boyhood club.

Since that infamous interview, Ruben Amorim has not afforded a single minute of action to the Mancunian with INEOS backing the head coach’s stance.

Despite United’s best efforts, the Englishman’s £300,000 gross per week wages (via capology) and the club’s asking price have meant not too many clubs can afford Rashford in the middle of the season.

Saudi clubs could but the United No 10 has no intention of joining the cash-rich league at this stage of his career while he has also rejected lucrative approaches from MLS.

Dortmund in pole position for Rashford

AC Milan seemed to be in pole position at one moment but the England international had kept the Serie A giants waiting as he wanted to secure an exit to Barcelona.

The Serie A giants have since moved their attention on to Kyle Walker, while the Catalan club have struggled to come up with the finances to afford the loan deal which has allowed Borussia Dortmund to sneak into pole position.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the United star’s camp and the Bundesliga giants are set for a meeting imminently while Barca are currently trying to offload Ansu Fati in the hope that they can then free up enough space for Rashford.

“Borussia Dortmund and Man United plan to have new contacts in the next days for Marcus Rashford. AC Milan are closing in on Walker deal, while BVB will explore more details of Rashford loan.

Meeting imminent

“And Barça remain very keen, based on Ansu Fati’s future,” Romano wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Interestingly, Bild have added that Dortmund are pushing very hard and if things fall in place, the England international could be headed to Dortmund for a medical as early as next Thursday.

For the loan deal to go through, the Carrington graduate will need to forego a part of his salary or United will need to pay a portion and only then can the German side afford the costly operation.

It is expected to be a straight loan with no option to buy included. If Rashford can regain his form like Jadon Sancho last season, it could allow United to sell him for a higher fee in the summer.

“Transfer target number 1: Manchester United star Marcus Rashford (27). According to BILD information, Dortmund is ahead in the bid to sign the striker. If everything goes according to plan, it can all happen very quickly and the 60-time England international could arrive in Dortmund for a medical check as early as next Thursday!

Medical soon

“The attacker, who was dropped by the new Man United coach Rúben Amorim (39), is said to be willing to forego at least part of his salary in order to get his faltering career in Dortmund back on track.

“Nevertheless, the Rashford package would cost BVB between 6 and 8 million euros. A lot of money for a player whose chances of signing him permanently are practically zero. With salary and transfer fee, the entire Rashford package is not financially viable for Dortmund!”

Even though INEOS will not be too happy with the situation, getting Rashford’s wages off the books will be a huge help while they will also earn a loan fee.

Hopefully, the player can show signs of life if he does join the German giants who are currently struggling. Interestingly, Erik ten Hag is favourite to take over should Nuri Sahin get sacked. Another development worth keeping an eye on.
