Former Manchester United assistant manager Rene Hake has reportedly verbally agreed to join West Bromwich Albion as manager.
The Dutchman has had previous managerial experience in the Netherlands, most recently at Utrecht and Go Ahead Eagles.
Hake left his role at the Dutch club this summer though as he was offered the chance to become an assistant manager at United as part of a shakeup to Erik ten Hag’s backroom staff.
The 53 year old was only in a job for a matter of months though as Ten Hag was sacked in October after a poor start to the season and Ruben Amorim was announced as the new head coach.
The Portuguese cleared the decks and brought in the majority of his staff from Sporting Lisbon, meaning that Hake departed his role.
He was linked to a role at Leicester City with his former colleague Ruud van Nistelrooy but it never materialised.
Football Insider reports though that his break from English football will be a short one, however.
“West Brom have agreed a deal to appoint former Man United assistant head coach Rene Hake as their new manager,” sources informed the outlet.
“The 53-year-old has verbally accepted an offer to replace Carlos Corberan and contracts are now being drawn up.”
The job will surely be a tempting one as West Brom sit sixth in the Championship table and are well in contention for a playoff place to secure Premier League football at the end of the season.
Hake will also take over a team that is hard to beat as they have impressively only lost four out of their 26 league matches all season.
The Baggies will take on Stoke City on Saturday 18th of January in what could be the former United man’s first game in charge.
