Amorim reacts to Bournemouth home defeat

Ruben Amorim says the bad moments will pass, if Manchester United stay strong to our ideas.
The Reds were beaten 3-0 by a clinical Bournemouth side on Sunday, with Dean Huijsen heading home a first-half set-piece before Justin Kluivert’s penalty and an Antoine Semenyo strike took the game away from us after the break.
United had our opportunities but couldn’t find a way past Kepa Arrizabalaga on a cold, disappointing afternoon at Old Trafford.
Amorim said his players needed to negotiate the tougher moments in games with a cooler head, staying calm even when the crowd is anxious.

THEY SCORED IN KEY MOMENTS
“Everybody saw the game. You cannot speak about fair in football because they scored and we didn’t, but we didn’t give anything [away] until the set-pieces and then we were so near [to scoring] the goal. But I think everybody felt a little anxious, not just the players but also the fans. It’s a very difficult moment for our club, you can feel it every game and especially at home. Two goals, like against Tottenham, very quickly, so you want to respond but you cannot do it because you suffer another goal, and then we suffer until the end of the game. I felt we created a lot of situations for our opponent [to deal with] but they managed to score and I think that makes the difference.”
WE’RE WORKING ON SET-PIECES
“All the areas are of concern, especially of course set-pieces. We are training on that, we have to improve. There’s a lot of teams that are really strong on that, so we are working on it a lot of the time.”
MORE CALM IS REQUIRED
“Of course it’s [another] one of our focuses – to maintain the calm when you concede a goal. The last match, we suffer a goal and then another goal very quickly, so we have to manage these moments. Try to pass some calm to the players and say the game has difficult moments. We have to manage these difficult moments.”
DON’T GET TOO EMOTIONAL
“We just need to work on the way we play, that’s all. Focus on the job in the moment, not what you feel in the stadium. Just focus on the job you have to do when the ball is in one place, is in another place. It’s the only way I know how to help my players, is to focus on the job, just that.”
WE HAVE TO KEEP GOING
“It’s so much easier to pass on an idea when you’re winning and you’re scoring and you’re not conceding. But it’s also a great privilege to be here, so we have to continue now. Nothing bad lasts forever and nothing good lasts forever, so we have to continue again and be very strong in our ideas, especially in the bad moments. We will do it and try to win the next game.”
RASHFORD A SELECTION CALL
“The game that we want to play is a game with possession that dominates the other team. Every player can fit in this system, so it’s just selection and I try to take the best of the players in a way they can understand.”
ON TO THE NEXT ONE
“I always expect [difficulties] especially in this busy month. It’s not different from what I expected, so we are ready to face the challenge. We have not a lot of time to work but there is another opportunity to change the momentum, so we will fight for the three points.”
