3 fouls won, 96% passing, 100% long balls: United’s whirlwind wideman too much for Wolves

Manchester United waltzed past Wolverhampton Wanderers to get back to winning ways. The Red Devils trotted out 4-1 winners at Molyneux, where they showed what they were capable of in a strong performance against dismal opposition. Mount on the scoresheet Ruben Amorim will be frustrated at the goal his side shipped in the last seconds of the first half which brought the hosts level, but has to be happy with the overall scoreline as United went about improving their goal difference. Bruno Fernandes bagged a brace and Bryan Mbeumo was on target once again but the best goal of the night came from Mason Mount, who had one of his best performances for United. Lining up on the left, the attacking midfielder made it 3-1 with a sweet volley from a Fernandes cross. The Englishman also saw two shots blocked. Pinpoint passing Mount’s performance caught the eye and he was awarded Player of the Match by Sky Sports, and some of his stats were seriously impressive. The 26-year-old recorded 96% passing accuracy, finding his man with 26 of his attempted 27 passes, although that’s fewer than half of the number made by Fernandes. He didn’t manage a key pass but was on target with both of the long balls he attempted. Mount only lost possession seven times, the least of any starting United attacker. Mount was also willing – if not always successful – in the duel. He contested 14 in total, but only came out on top three times. He also failed with both attempted dribbles but was United’s most-fouled man, showing that he caused the home defenders a headache.
