24-yo United baller holds “significant discussions” with Serie A giants – report

Whether Joshua Zirkzee will still be at Manchester United next season remains to be seen. The 24‑year‑old has shown glimpses of brilliance in United colours, but has struggled to nail down a consistent place in the starting XI. Premier League pace an issue Zirkzee’s biggest challenge has been his pace. In a league as relentless as the Premier League, he has often looked sluggish, which has likely prevented him from winning the full trust of the coaching staff. Much like Dimitar Berbatov, he tries to compensate for that shortfall with silk and intelligence, dictating the game at his own tempo. Yet, in the long term, such an approach may not prove sufficient. Consequently, the Dutchman continues to be linked with a move away from Old Trafford. Napoli interest gathers pace Reports from Napoli Magazine suggest Zirkzee could be on his way to Naples. Journalist Emanuele Cammaroto notes: “I’m getting confirmation that Manna has had significant discussions with the Manchester United Dutchman’s entourage. “The English club value Zirkzee at €40 million, a figure that could, however, be lowered. “Napoli are keenly interested, and are considering and studying the deal. It’s a path worth pursuing and could come to fruition at any moment.” Zirkzee had previously impressed in Serie A with Bologna before United secured his services for £36.5 million in the summer of 2024. Hojlund rivalry reignited He was brought in to challenge Rasmus Hojlund for the number nine role, yet neither managed to outshine the other. Now, that rivalry appears destined to be reignited at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. Of course, that scenario will only materialise once the Partenopei activate Hojlund’s option to buy and successfully agree terms for Zirkzee. Even so, should United’s number 11 depart for Naples, the Red Devils would be forced to recruit another striker to deputise Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian forward is beginning to find his stride at Old Trafford and, since the turn of the year, has been in impressive form, netting six goals in eight Premier League matches. Crucially, he could benefit from a proper rival for the number nine role to push him further.
