Manchester United star Marcus Rashford was on fire as Barcelona dismantled Olympiacos 6-1 in a big Champions League victory.
Barcelona put Olympiacos to the sword
Barcelona raced into a two-goal lead within the opening 40 minutes, thanks to a brilliant brace from midfielder Fermin Lopez.
Lopez took both his goals well, giving the Blaugrana a commanding lead heading into the break. However, Olympiacos halved the deficit just eight minutes after the restart, courtesy of Ayoub El Kaabi, who made no mistake from the penalty spot.
Olympiacos appeared to have the momentum, but it didn’t last long as Rashford earned a penalty after being brought down by the goalkeeper. Lamine Yamal stepped up to take the spot-kick and he calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net to make it 3-1.
Rashford soon made it four with a superb right-footed finish, before Lopez sealed his hat-trick to put the result beyond doubt and confirm Barcelona’s dominance.
To put the icing on the cake, Rashford netted a sixth, cutting inside before unleashing a powerful low drive into the bottom corner.
Rashford’s performance
Rashford took four shots during the game, converting both of his on-target efforts.
The Carrington academy graduate successfully found his Barcelona teammates with 17 of the 20 passes he attempted (85% pass accuracy). One was a key pass.
He managed to connect with two of the three long balls he pinged.
Rashford touched the ball 40 times and won three fouls. While dangerous for most of the contest, he did not complete any of the four dribbles he embarked on.
The England international won three of the nine ground duels he delved into.
(Stats obtained from Sofascore)
It was a superb performance from Rashford, who now boasts of having the most goal contributions in the Champions League this season (5), alongside Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe.
