Manchester United are reportedly willing to keep Harry Maguire at the club beyond the current campaign, but only on suitable conditions.
The Sheffield native cost the Premier League giants a whopping £80 million when he made the move from Leicester in the summer of 2019.
The defender was named club captain in his first campaign at Old Trafford, but went on to endure challenging years.

The big centre-back eventually became a target for banter and ridicule among football supporters. In the summer of 2023, Erik ten Hag decided to strip him of the armband in favour of Bruno Fernandes.
Nevertheless, the English international bounced back last season following the arrival of Ruben Amorim, as he seemed to benefit from the switch to a three-man backline. This prompted the club to exercise the option to renew Maguire’s contract for another year last January, thus pushing back the deadline until June 2026.
This season, the former Leicester defender is no longer a regular starter for the club. He has thus far made six appearances in the Premier League, but only two as a starter, as Amorim has been preferring to field Leny Yoro alongside Matthijs de Ligt and Luke Shaw.
Therefore, the defender’s future at Man Utd is currently shrouded in mystery. Maguire has also been linked with a potential transfer to the Saudi Pro League either in January or at the end of the season.
However, talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook believes that the 32-year-old could end up staying at Carrington beyond next summer, as INEOS aren’t necessarily against a contract renewal.
Maguire must accept pay cut to stay at Man United
That being said, Maguire would likely have to accept a pay cut, as the management is keen to lower the wage bill. The centre-back currently earns circa £190,000 per week. The source doesn’t mention any figures proposed by the club.
At this stage, it is plainly obvious that the England veteran is no longer a priority for MUFC, especially after losing his starting spot. Nevertheless, he can still serve a purpose, particularly if the club secures a spot in Europe next season, so keeping him wouldn’t be a travesty if the numbers are right.
