Manchester United’s Amad was knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations as Ivory Coast suffered a 3-2 defeat to Egypt at the quarter-final stage. Noussair Mazraoui only star left With Cameroon’s defeat to Morocco, it means Noussair Mazraoui is the only United player left in the African competition. Amad has been a star of the competition so far, scoring three goals and providing an assist in four matches for his side. Nonetheless, last night was not his night. Loss versus Egypt The Egyptians raced into a two-goal lead, but the Ivorians struck back just before half-time. Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah restored their two-goal cushion in the second half before Amad helped his side close the gap once more. The United winger’s dangerous corner was knocked down at the back post and turned in by Guela Doue. Unfortunately, he and his teammates were unable to complete the recovery and will bow out at the quarter-final stage. He played 90 minutes of the game and only managed two shots on goal in a much less influential performance. His two efforts were blocked by the Egyptian defence. Amad also had one key pass and completed four dribble attempts as he was a threat out wide. His crossing was not at its most accurate, though, as he could only complete two out of seven attempts. As always, the Ivorian worked relentlessly for his side and won six ground duels in the match. He did lose his only aerial duel, though. Amad will now return to Manchester and will most likely be available for the visit of Manchester City, which will be a big benefit for the squad alongside Mbeumo.
