0 shots on target, 0 crosses, 4/13 duels: United attacker produces horror display up top in 1-0 loss to Forest

Manchester United suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

Following a prolonged international break, Man United quickly readjusted to life in the Premier League, producing a largely impressive performance despite being unable to find the back of the net.

With 68% possession and a mammoth 24 shots on goal, United would have surely felt frustrated that they weren’t able to come away with a result.

Still, Forest’s nervy win did not only come down to luck – it also came on the back of some poor finishing by the visitors.

At the heart of United’s inability to make the most of their chances was Alejandro Garnacho.

Garnacho had the most shots of any player on the field, with six attempts in total. Unbelievably, with three shots off target and three blocked attempts, the Argentine winger was never able to find the target.

Sadly, his dribbling wasn’t much better. Garnacho only managed to complete two of his five attempted dribbles, proof of his struggles up top.

When it came to his physicality, Garnacho struggled greatly, winning only four of his 13 ground duels. He was not involved in any aerial challenges.

He was also mostly absent when it came to assisting his teammates in defence. Garnacho only produced one defensive action, namely a tackle.

Fortunately, his performance wasn’t just doom and gloom. The winger was able to complete 49 of his 52 passes, making for an impressive 94% passing accuracy.

What’s more, he produced a notable four key passes, testament to his high involvement in United’s attacking build-ups.

In contrast, however, he could not complete a single one of his seven crosses.

Sadly, Garnacho’s attacking display is one that he would probably sooner want to forget. With the Argentine showing no signs of improving his shooting, one can only imagine how long Ruben Amorim will continue to tolerate Garnacho’s inability to produce the final product, especially with everything to play for in the Europa League.
