0/8 duels, 0 shots, 0 effort: Amorim must drop this League 2 level player after embarrassing display vs Everton

Following a disastrous first-half performance, Manchester United clawed their way back from the dead to secure a 2-2 draw away at Everton on Saturday.

Yet again, Ruben Amorim’s team got off to a poor start, failing to even register a shot in the first 45 minutes of play.

In the 72nd minute, a sublime free-kick by Bruno Fernandes got United onto the scoresheet. While the catalyst for United’s comeback, Fernandes’ goal was the team’s first shot on target the entire match – a chilling example of how poor their attack truly was.

While the blame for United’s poor performance could be shared among several players, perhaps no one was a bolder example of their poor attacking display than Rasmus Hojlund.

United’s lone striker in a 3-4-3 formation, Hojlund failed to attempt even a single shot the entire game.

Still, this comes as little surprise given that he only got 12 touches on the ball.

While he achieved 100% passing accuracy with all seven of his passes finding their mark, this was truly the only impressive aspect of his gameplay throughout the entire encounter.

Given his limited exposure, Hojlund made zero crosses and no long balls.

He did make one key pass, however.

During his time with the ball at his feet, Hojlund exhibited absolutely no quality gameplay.

He lost all four of his ground duels as well as all four of his aerial duels.

Furthermore, he failed to attempt even one dribble.

Defensively, Hojlund was a ghost as well, not managing a single defensive action the entire match.

It has become abundantly clear that after so many consecutive poor performances, Hojlund does not live up tp the standard of what a United striker should be.

Surely the time has come for Amorim to stop being so rigid with his squad selection and finally admit that the Dane simply doesn’t meet the performance requirements for a club like United. Even if this is simply a poor patch of performances by Hojlund, it might do the youngster justice to allow him to spend some time on the sidelines.
