Sheffield United are reportedly lining up Manchester United midfielder James Garner for a loan move as they target their first summer signing.

The Blades are yet to dip into the transfer market since their relegation from the Premier League, but Slavisa Jokanovic is looking to get down to work now after getting his feet under the table as manager.

His first target could well be Garner, who’s reportedly being eyed up for a loan move to Bramall Lane.

He’s being linked with a move by the Sun, who reference a strong relationship between the Blades and the Old Trafford club, having taken goalkeeper Dean Henderson on for two successful loans previously.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are also said to be willing to fund the move, although the Blades aren’t the only side interested.

Garner is also wanted by Nottingham Forest, with Chris Hughton looking to bring the midfielder back to the County Ground after he spent time there last season.

The 20-year-old made 20 appearances for Forest during the second half of last season, scoring four goals in the process, and the Reds are keen on bringing him back for the new season.

Garner though could play a big part next season for the Blades, especially with speculation currently over Sander Berge’s future.

The Norwegian has been linked with a move to Arsenal, as well as Napoli, although rumours have wilted somewhat over recent weeks, with Jokanovic playing it cool when asked about his and Aaron Ramsdale’s futures.

“Sander is a young man, he’s really clever and a happy man,” Jokanovic said.

“I don’t have any sensation that he is unhappy where he is. I am not worried, I am happy with them and I trust they will stay with me and I trust they can be happy working with me and their Sheffield United team-mates.”
