Yoshiro Mori, president of the Tokyo Olympic Committee, resigned today. He has been widely criticized around the world for saying that women talk too much.
At a meeting with the games’ preparation committee, he said that his words had caused a great deal of chaos and that he had therefore decided to resign from today. Politicians as well as athletes condemned the president’s remarks about women when questioned and did not say them in line with the Olympic spirit.
Mori is 83 years old, former Prime Minister of Japan. According to Japanese media, it is likely that Seiko Hashimoto, the Olympic Minister, will take over from him. She is the second of two women in the Japanese government.
