“Will be picky”: Euro champs set crazy-low asking price for world-class United target, could be signing of the summer – report

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has reportedly reached a decision about his future amid growing speculation that Manchester United are interested.

Donnarumma emerging as an option for United

United are considering signing a goalkeeper as uncertainty over the long-term suitability of Andre Onana and his deputy Altay Bayindir persists.

Last term, both goalkeepers made numerous high-profile mistakes that dearly cost United. There is an acceptance that neither is the answer for the club between the sticks, making it necessary to dip into the market for reinforcements.

The Red Devils continue to be linked to a number of shot-stoppers including Emi Martinez (Aston Villa), John Victor (Botafogo) and Senne Lammens (Royal Antwerp), but noise of a potential move to Old Trafford for Donnarumma is gathering pace.

Donnarumma’s contract with PSG expires next summer and he has yet to reach an agreement with the club over fresh terms. This has led the reigning Champions League winners to consider a sale in a bid to avoid losing him for free.

Seemingly resigned to losing the Italian’s eventual departure, PSG are on the brink of completing the signing of Lucas Chevalier from Lille.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United asked about Donnarumma earlier in the window. Their approach was rebuffed but PSG are now more willing to listen to offers.

But, it has been claimed that United may need to sell unwanted players before they are able to afford adding Donnarumma to their ranks.

Now, a fresh update has emerged revealing the player’s stance on a move to United, along with the fee PSG are reportedly demanding for his services.

Donnarumma’s decision and PSG’s asking price

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Donnarumma is more than happy to remain in the French capital for an additional year and see out his contract. He hasn’t ruled out a move this summer, but he is only willing to join a club competing in the Champions League and capable of challenging for major trophies. He “will be picky” if he leaves PSG.

Jacobs reveals, “Donnarumma is content to stay in Paris and fight for his place, even though there has been no significant engagement over a new deal to date. However, PSG prefer to sell and have been reluctant to improve Donnarumma’s terms.”

“GMS understands PSG valued Donnarumma at in excess of £30m. This number is informed by the £25m Milan asked Chelsea for when they enquired over Mike Maignan. Both keepers have 12 months left on their current deals, but Donnarumma is only 26.”

“Suggestions Donnarumma has had a formal approach from either Manchester United or Galatasaray are wide of the mark. The French international goalkeeper is yet to receive any meaningful approach, but that could change in the final weeks of the window.’

Jacobs notes that Donnarumma’s situation is complicated by the imminent arrival of Chevalier – a situation that could ultimately force him out and play into United’s hands.
