Why Tanguy Ndombele asked to leave Tottenham

Ndombele wants to leave Tottenham would sign Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon in 2019 for a club-record €60m.

Ndombele would not hit the ground running at Spurs, with the midfielder seemingly struggling to adapt to the aggressive nature of the Premier League and its physical demands.

But when Jose Mourinho left the club and was replaced by Nuno Espirito Santo, some Tottenham fans were no doubt hopeful we would finally see the best of Ndombele in a Spurs shirt.

However, this has not yet happened, with Nuno leaving the midfielder out of all of his pre-season games and all three competitive ties so far this term.

The reason for these omissions would become clear, when it was reported that Ndombele has actually asked to leave the Lilywhites this summer:

Tanguy Ndombele has asked to leave Tottenham this window. That’s why Nuno hasn’t been picking him so far this season.

Why Ndombele asked to leave Tottenham Why, though, has Tanguy Ndombele asked to leave Spurs?

Surely once Jose Mourinho was gone he had hope he could turn what had been a frankly disappointing Tottenham stint around?

Well, The Athletic have moved to explain why the Frenchman wants to leave, and it does appear to have started right around Mourinho’s departure.

Ryan Mason would take temporary charge of the Lilywhites for the end of the 2020/21 season.

And Mason started Ndombele in his first match vs Southampton, which Tottenham won, but the former Lyon man was taken off after a fairly uninspiring display.

Spurs’ next watch would be the League Cup final, which Mason did not start nor bring Ndombele on for – a decision that is said to have left him crestfallen.

On the back of his League Cup final omission, Ndombele’s head dropped and he was said to be so upset to miss the final that it affected his performances in training, giving Ryan Mason no real reason to put him back in the side for the rest of 2020/21.

This miserable end to the campaign, which also saw him miss out on France’s Euro 2020 squad, is said to have led to Ndombele asking to leave Spurs – believing that he can get a move to a big team such as Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich.
