Why Martial was absent from Man United’s squad to face Leicester

An explanation for the omission of Manchester United star Anthony Martial from the club’s squad to face Leicester City has been provided.

Daka rounds out the scoring Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men marked their return to action following the international break earlier today.

On the back of an altogether concerning stretch of form, the Red Devils made the trip to Leicester, hoping to take advantage of the Foxes’ own struggles, to return to winning ways.

When the 90 minutes were said and done on Saturday, though, United’s woes were only compounded…

The latest in a string of disjointed performances, particularly from a defensive standpoint, saw Brendan Rodgers’ hosts take full advantage courtesy of a 4-2 win.

Youri Tielemans, Caglar Soyuncu, Jamie Vardy and substitute Patson Daka were all on target, rendering a Mason Greenwood stunner and Marcus Rashford’s returning strike irrelevant upon the final whistle sounding.

‘Not fit’ As outlined above, though, whilst his teammates stuttered to yet another disappointing result at the King Power, one individual who in fact played no part for Manchester United this afternoon was Anthony Martial.

The Frenchman has of course endured a difficult opening to the campaign, but did manage to bag the Red Devils’ only goal last time out, en route to a 1-1 stalemate with Everton.

In turn, his complete absence versus Leicester came as something of a surprise.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, though, has since confirmed that Martial is in fact currently on the treatment table, having returned from international duty this week ‘not fit’:

No Martial in the squad. “He’s come back from France not fit, so he’s not trained all week,” Ole told MUTV. “Hopefully, we can have him back soon.”

*Picked up a knock vs Everton (GW7) but joined the NT, although he didn’t play minutes.
